Building a gunite pool typically takes 12 to 16 weeks, but the timeline can vary based on factors such as:

1. Design complexity: Custom shapes, features, and landscaping can extend the process.
2. Permits and approvals: Securing permits may take extra time, depending on local regulations.
3. Weather conditions: Rain or extreme temperatures can delay construction, especially during excavation or curing phases.

If everything runs smoothly, expect around 2-3 months, but delays can push the timeline to 5 months or more in some cases.

1. Design and Planning

• Consultation: Collaborate with one of our pool designers to create a custom layout, including shape, depth, and features like waterfalls, tanning ledges, or spas.
• Permits: Obtain necessary permits from local authorities.

2. Site Preparation

• Excavation: The site is marked and excavated according to the pool design. This process involves heavy machinery to create the desired shape and depth.
• Formwork: Wooden forms are placed to outline the pool’s shape to ensure the accuracy of the pool design.

3. Steel Reinforcement

• Structural framework: A reinforced steel framework is installed throughout the Pool area creating the backbone for the Pools Structure. The rebar is strategically placed and secured to ensure durability and strength, with additional reinforcement in key areas requiring enhanced support. This is critical in the construction process.

4. Plumbing and Electrical Work

• Plumbing: This is another critical area to consider as it will affect your water quality if Pipes are not sized correctly or placed correctly in the Pool area. We calculate the volume of water, determine the pump and filter size, the pipe size and location as well as the location of the skimmer and main drain to ensure your pool stays as clean as possible. Low maintenance is our goal for our clients. 
• Electrical: Conduits for pool lights, pumps, and other electrical components are laid out.

5. Gunite Application

• Spraying gunite: A mix of sand, cement, and water is sprayed over the rebar framework using a high-pressure hose. The gunite wall and floor finishes 8” to 12” thick.
• Shaping: Workers smooth and shape the gunite to achieve the desired contours and features.

6. Curing

• Curing process: The gunite needs to cure and harden over time (typically 7–10 days). During this period, the surface must be kept moist or sprayed with a curing compound to ensure it reaches the designed compressive strength (4000 + psi or more).

7. Tile and Coping Installation

• Tile: Decorative tiles are installed along the waterline for aesthetics and functionality.
• Coping: The pool’s edges are finished with natural flagstone or travertine to create a polished look.

8. Surface Finish

• Marble or Quartz Plaster: A final layer is applied to the pool’s interior for waterproofing and aesthetics. The material choice affects the pool’s durability and appearance. The plaster finish will result in a smooth pool surface.

9. Decking 

• Deck construction: Surrounding areas are finished with concrete, pavers, or other materials.

10. Filling and Startup

• Water fill: The pool is filled with water.
• Equipment setup: Filters, pumps, and heaters are installed and tested.

Chemical balancing: Water chemistry is adjusted for safe swimming.

Marble pool plaster is a traditional pool finish made from a mixture of crushed marble aggregate and white Portland cement. It is commonly used as an interior surface for concrete or gunite pools, providing a smooth and watertight finish. Marble plaster is valued for its classic white appearance and affordability compared to other high-end finishes. Marble pool plaster typically lasts 8 to 10 years with proper maintenance.

Quartz pool plaster is a premium pool finish made from a blend of quartz aggregate and cement, often mixed with additives for enhanced durability and aesthetics. Quartz is one of the hardest and most durable minerals, making it a superior option compared to traditional marble plaster. Quartz plaster lasts longer than traditional marble plaster, with a lifespan of 12–20 years or more when properly maintained. Quartz plaster is available in a wide variety of colors.
